| Two accidents in one hour |
Sun. Dec 28th 2008
Around 12:30pm, Company 3 ans Squad 3 tones were set off for a single-vehicle MVA into guard rail at Coleman Falls dumpsters. Unit 381 from Squad 3 arrived to find no injuries, advising that only traffic control was needed. Fire-Rescue 3 arrived to find one vehicle in the southbound land of 501 with minor damage and fluids leaking. The guardrail showed substantial damage from the vehicle impacting in two locations. Personnel quickly setup traffic control and mitigated the transmission fluid leak.
Assistant Chief 3 requested Bedford Communications to advise state of the situation and that traffic control was not needed if the lane could be reopened. State authorized moving the vehicle. Units marked the tires and upon trying to move the vehicle, that the transmission was locked up and would not roll. Traffic control was continued until the wrecker arrived on scene. Lucky for the patients, both were properly wearing their seat belts and everyone walked away from the incident.
While still on scene a by-stander alerted command of another accident at Eagle Eyrie. Command cleared Utility 3 to investigate the second accident. Upon arriving on scene, Utility 3 personnel found a vehicle that had a tire blow out and ran off the road onto the shoulder. Bedford County Sheriff passed by the first accident and was asked to sit on the shoulder to slow traffic while the tire was changed. Units on both scenes were FR-3, U-3, BCSO, and VASP.
