Bedford Fire Dept. Company 1 The Bedford Volunteer Fire Department is located in the City of Bedford, VA approximately 25 miles east of Roanoke and 20 miles west of Lynchburg. Organized in 1888, the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department was Bedford City and County's only organized fire protection until 1952.
Bedford Life Saving Crew (Squad 1) The Bedford Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc. was formed on July 8, 1943 with a mere 15 members and one Ford truck. They currently have approximately 35 members, 4 fully stocked ambulances, a crash truck, and 2 response vehicles.
